Factoids
I have called this page 'Factoids', as not everything here has been scientifically documented (I think). Please read the DISCLAIMER
Weighing in at just 2% (on average) of total body mass, the human brain uses 20% of the bodys energy consumption. Unbelievable isn't it?
You may not be as fat as you think. For every gram of fat stored, the body stores an additional two grams of water.
One gram of fat contains over twice as many calories as a gram of protein or carbohydrate.
The only fats you need to consume are Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs). Read about them HERE.
TRANS FATS are added to food products to increase their shelf-life. Foods containing trans fats should be avoided at all costs, as consuming them may well reduce *your* shelf-life. If any food product lists 'hydrogented' or 'partially hydrogenated' in it's ingredients, leave it in the shop.
A journey of a 1000 miles starts with the first step (cliche I know, but I had to include it).
The human body burns fat more efficiently in a fasted state than in a fed state. The science behind this fact is simple. However, I am not a scientist, so if you want to know more then read about glycogen.
For one week, keep a diary of what, and how much you eat and drink. It may surprise you just how much garbage you force your body to recycle.
If you fall off the wagon, just get back on and start again. Try to understand why you fell off, but don't beat yourself up.
Like giving up smoking, the fewer people you tell, the better.
Conversely, shout it from the rooftops and set up your own blog. You will be more likely to stay focussed if you think the world is watching you!
Do not give up eating or drinking the things you like, just moderate them. Make something taboo, and you are setting yourself up to fail.
Set yourself reasonable, measurable and achievable goals. Be realistic.
Water is your friend, drink more of it.
There is evidence to suggest that diet drinks are bad for your health and may even make you fat. Do the Google.
Diets do not work.
